Day 20 of the 26 Day Big Shut Up: listen more often to things than to beings…

…sang Honey in the Rock in their song, Breaths.

They remind us that it’s comforting to know that in those times when you’re being shut up, when you’re not being listened to and feelings of isolation begin to take over, that you can gain inspiration, comfort and solutions from the inanimate world more than perhaps from the beings around you. The song says it far better than I can:

Listen more often to things than to beings,

Tis’ the ancestors’ breath,

When the fire’s voice is heard,

Tis’ the ancestor’s breath,

In the voice of the waters,

Ah — wsh Ah — wsh.

Those who have died have never, never left,

The dead are not under the earth,

They are in the rustling trees,

They are in the groaning woods,

They are in the crying grass,

They are in the moaning rocks,

The dead are not under the earth,

Those who have did have never, never left,

The dead have a pact with the living,

They are in the woman’s breast,

They are in the wailing child,

They are with us in our homes,

They are with us in this crowd,

The dead have a pact with the living,

Listen more often to things than to beings,

Listen more often to things than to beings,

Tis’ the ancestors’ breath,

When the fire’s voice is heard,

Tis’ the ancestor’s breath,

In the voice of the waters,

Ah — wsh Ah — wsh.

The Mighty Creatives staff team are going to support the campaign by taking part in the Mighty (UN)Mute, a day-long vow of silence, on the 5th October. If you want to join us on the day and take a vow of silence, then please check out the campaign here.

Of if the thought of donating your silence for 24 hours is really too much, then you can donate your hard-earned disposable income here.

Or if neither of these is possible (and heaven knows we’re all in tough financial times right now), then anything you can do to share and shout about the campaign would be equally welcome and appreciated.

So… come and help me to shut up, once and for all. You know you want to.
